Driving Top-down: Convertibles
Mercedes-Benz SL 63 AMG
It’s hard to put into words India’s love affair with this famed German automaker. While some mightsuggest this love is getting muddled, for the majority of the classes, it remains one of the biggest symbols of the nouveau riche— and we mean that in the best possible way. However, while many heap praise on the C, E and SClass Mercs, the automaker’s other offerings have fewer takers. That’s unfortunate, because these particular Germans happen to have one of the finest hardtop convertible grand tourers in their portfolio: the SL-Class. And in the SL-63 AMG, they also happen to have a very fine V8, which adds just the kind of power you’d be looking for in a sports car. This quality marque from Mercedes-Benz has some top-notch craftsmanship, along with the muscle you’d expect from a grand tourer. It takes around 4.6 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/hr, and that’s not even the best part. The ‘AMG’ tag means that this is more than your regular (SL-Class), with better handling, improved stability, and, of course, a price tag with higher digits on it.
