Just when Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is hitting new highs at box offices globally, a handwritten and illustrated copy of The Tales of Beedle the Bard, also by bestselling author of Harry Potter books, JK Rowling, is set to go under the hammer at an upcoming Sotheby's auction in London.
Almost a decade ago, in December 2007, Rowling had presented this manuscript to British publisher Barry Cunningham. It is one of the only seven created by the author, and bears a personal dedication. Bound in brown Moroccan leather and adorned with seven rhodochrosites, the book features sterling silver ornaments centred around a skull. It is estimated to auction for £300,000 to £500,000 (approx. INR2 to 4 crores), and can be viewed from December 9th to 13th at the Sotheby's London centre. It will be auctioned on the last day as a part of the English Literature, History, Children's Books, and Illustrations sale.
