This massive 57,500 carat oval gem weighs 11.5 kilograms and is the size of a watermelon. Named Teodora, meaning 'Gift of God' in Portuguese, the gem is the world's largest cut emerald.
Mined in Brazil, Teodora was then sold to an Indian buyer who got the stone cut. It was never cut into smaller pieces for jewellery because it is opaque, attributing much of its value to its size.
Recently the emerald was appraised at $1.15 million but the owners believe that it will sell for much more. Teodora will be auctioned off at Western Star Auctions in Kelowna, BC, Canada on January 28.
