Week in Luxury Launches: 24 Karat Shout
Louis Vuitton's Objets Nomades collection

Good news is that the unfortunate La Samaritaine department store that closed in Paris, is getting a makeover, Louis Vuitton style. The LVMH group will take over the 860,000sqft property and ramp it up as an addition to the brand’s iconic Cheval Blanc chain of hotels. At an investment of about $590 million, the new address for luxurious hospitality will be up and running by 2016.

Moving on to LV’s strong footing, we’re eyeing the Objets Nomades collection by the brand that reflects the true spirit of a world traveller. Themed to ‘the journey’, the collection surfaced at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan, showcasing a wide range of pieces created by 13 different designers like Oki Sato of Nendo Studio, Maarten Baas, Thierry Gaugain, and Patricia Urquiola among others.

Steinway & Sons Louis XV-style 24 k grand piano

Jewel Tones

And while Louis Vuitton chose to translate the nomadic life, luxury retailer Mi Piaci doled out the bling with its 24 k Gold Signature Collection. Take your pick from the five different Italian leather handbags that employ a lobster orange for that pop of colour, and are infused with 24 k gold. Crave something even more exquisite? Try Mi Piaci’s Fantasy Fur Collection which has been orchestrated by master furrier Roberto Masci (formerly of Chanel and Fendi). The range consists of one-of-a-kind fur coats, jackets, gloves, handbags, and scarves, and of course, 24k gold!

Also glittering in gold and up for grabs is the Steinway & Sons Louis XV-style gilt wood grand piano clad in 24 k gold. Set to be auctioned this April-end by Leslie Hindman Auctioneers, you can bid on this gorgeous marvel even via the internet.  Designed by Joseph Burr Tiffany, the grand piano is carved from mahogany by Juan Ayuso, and was created to commemorate Steinway & Sons’ 50th anniversary.

Where gold ends, the charm of studded jewels begins. So also on the radar this week is Taiwan’s Formosan Civet Coffee. Launched recently in Japan, the Kopi Luwak already holds the title for being the most expensive coffee in the world, and is being served up in a limited edition Swarovski-studded 100 gram jar for $900. Care for a cup?

MB&F's MegaWind timepiece

Tech Talk

Oh how we love MB&F watches, and the brand hits it out of the park with its latest—the MegaWind. In yet another spin-off from the Horological Machine No.3, the spaceship lookalike timepiece sports MB&F’s signature ‘battle axe’ winding rotor at the top of the case. Designed by Jean-Marc Wiederrecht, the rotor’s titanium center and 22k gold blade arms are quite a creative feat.

An while that’s our recommendation on the ticker, our pick for kickass soundgear are the two new B&O Play headphones that will make a music lover’s head spin. While the BeoPlay H3 fit perfectly in the ears, the BeoPlay H6 are super comfortable over-the-ear alternates. Designed with anodised high purity aluminum and solid cowhide leather, could it get any more premium than that?
