Alberto Ciaschini: Designing the Perfect Bag
Milanese designer Alberto Ciaschini, who has been leading the design department of Hidesign since 2004, has partnered with the finest couture embroiders of France along with artisans at Hidesign to bring together this line of minimalist bags, with modern shapes, soft structures and a lush colour palette. He gives us his take on the preferences of bags in Indian women.
What does the Indian woman today look for in a bag?
She wants something sophisticated, yet not too loud. A bag that’s big enough to stuff, but small in enough to take out to a cocktail party or just the evening out.
Tell us something about the premium luxury line launched by Hidesign?
It reflects what the woman in India is looking for today. The new line from the Hidesign collection includes handbags, evening bags, clutches and mobile phone holsters. This handcrafted luxury line of about 15 bags is made with the finest leathers (cow and lamb) and Swarovski crystals. Each piece is a unique because it is handmade.
What was the inspiration that led to this collection?
It has a generous sprinkling of glitter, and I must say the sari was a major inspiration. There is some leopard inspiration in the embroidery.
What about the collection do you love most?
The variety. Because of the need for finesse, I have used shades of nude and tan, green water and a little red too. Even though there are only 15 bags, on each kind, you can find different types of embroidery.
How long does a bag form the luxury collection take to produce?
Because it has a lot of handwork involved from handcrafting the bag, to the embroidery, also keeping in mind that it is a glamorous collection, it takes about three days to complete each bag.
The new sub-brand of Hidesign will be available at select Hidesign stores and hand-picked multi-brand stores across major metros in the country.
